Budget: 3 Million
Japara Aged Care was looking for an expansion to their already sizable aged care facility in Mirridong, Bendigo. With a previous extension completed only a few years back, Japara wanted a similar but enhanced experience in the new wing. Commissioning HSPC to do design they had envisioned was a challenge. The location of the new wing is to replace the old Vision Australia building which currently stands in disrepair and affects the experience of staff, guest and residents as they exit and entry the facility. After determining the old building couldn’t be salvaged to accommodate the new 16 bed dementia unit, it was determined to do a complete new build.
The design mimics the exterior of the previous extension on the site but applies a design logic that revolves around the care and memory stimulation of the future aged care dementia residents. With 16 private rooms with individual ensuites, 3 meter high and vaulted ceilings, 3 different lounge spaces, activities room and a feature sensory room and outdoor courtyards, the residents will also have something to do and to help them stimulate their memories.
The construction is set to begin around mid to late 2017.
