A New Healthcare Anchor for the Sunshine Coast
HSPC Health Architects has designed Maroochy Private Hospital as a major new anchor for clinical care and medical advancement within the emerging Maroochydore City Centre. The $100M, eleven-storey greenfield development delivers 11,000 square metres of patient-focused services, supporting the region’s expanding healthcare needs while contributing to a sustainable and community-centred CBD. The refined glazed facade establishes a confident architectural presence and introduces a vertical column of natural light along the fire stairs, reducing reliance on artificial lighting and creating a calm, uplifting experience for patients, clinicians and visitors.
Clinical Capability and Patient Experience
The hospital accommodates six operating theatres, 45 inpatient beds, specialist consulting suites and a comprehensive mix of surgical, allied health and pain management services. Planning throughout the building prioritises clarity, efficiency and intuitive wayfinding, with controlled daylight, acoustic balance and material refinement contributing to a comfortable and supportive environment. Partnerships with UniSC and Medacta enable ongoing research, training and workforce development, positioning the hospital not only as a clinical facility but as a platform for education and innovation.

Sustainability and Smart Infrastructure
Designed to a 4 Star Green Star rating, Maroochy Private Hospital incorporates best-practice principles for indoor environmental quality, low-toxicity materials and overall building performance. One of its most significant innovations is its integration with Australia’s first underground Automated Waste Collection System. As part of the Maroochydore City Centre infrastructure, the AWCS uses a pneumatic vacuum-pipe network to transport waste and recyclables from within the hospital to a central collection point. By removing the need for on-site waste truck movements, the system reduces emissions, noise, congestion and hygiene risks while improving operational efficiency. Its connection to this city-shaping infrastructure positions the hospital as an exemplar of precinct-integrated, future-ready healthcare design.
A Future-Focused Precinct Contribution
The project aligns with the Sunshine Coast’s broader development framework, which prioritises sustainable, smart and strategically serviced growth. The hospital’s environmental performance, adaptable planning and integration with major precinct infrastructure support long-term relevance as clinical models, technologies and population needs evolve. Maroochy Private Hospital represents a significant step forward in healthcare delivery on the Sunshine Coast and establishes a benchmark for private hospital design that balances architectural clarity, operational performance and community impact.
